Polite society mostly looks upon grave robbing as a rather unsavory profession. Is anyone surprised when a pair of bone burglars are visited upon by a vengeful voodoo curse? Perhaps surprise is not the long suit of The Oblong Box (1969), but this creepy tale of corpse-snatching siblings, based upon an original story by Edgar Allen Poe, is an entertaining and moody piece of morality fiction. Horror icons Vincent Price and Christopher Lee share top billing, although they appear together in only one scene. Enough sidelong plot twists and perversely poetic justice are served in The Oblong Box to keep the most jaded fan of the macabre mordantly amused.
