The Mistress of Spices (2005)

Spectacular Aishwarya Rai is the titular spice girl in The Mistress of Spices (2005), and she's a mighty master of her craft. Trained in India, Aishwarya is a mystical spiceologist who runs a shop in Oakland, sniffing out the emotional problems of her customers and fixing them up with her nosy wares. She's forbidden to dwell on her own desires, however, and can't ever leave the Spice Bazaar or have physical contact with the masses. Then mysterious bikerman Dylan McDermott roars into her life, testing her ability to keep her mind on cumin and her hands off the humans. It's like Chocolat (2000) without the chocolat . . . and as chick-friendly as a box of bon-bons.
