Review

Alternately titled What the Swedish Butler Saw and Champagnegalopp, the sudsy Victorian-era sex romp The Groove Room (1975) describes all of the kinky goings-on at a renovated insane asylum. Strapping Swede Ole Soltoft stars as Jack Tanner, a wealthy Victorian socialite who’s smitten with the comely daughter (Sue Longhurst) of a local parson. The only way that Tanner can figure to get poor Alice (Longhurst) alone for five minutes is to bring her to his fetish-friendly pleasure palace––a renovated asylum equipped with all manner of outrageous sex toys. While a thunder and lightning storm booms outside, Tanner and Alice busy themselves with the kind of liberated sex play that wouldn’t come into vogue for another century or more. Dig Longhurst, Malou Cartwright, and Inger Sundh perfectly epitomize the possibilities of ’70s smut as they strut their naked stuff.
