Review

The Damned (1969) is a powerful and dramatic look at the fall of German nobility during the rise of the Third Reich in 1930s Germany. The Essenbeck family is one of the country’s most noble families, and when Hitler rises to power, the Baron calls the family together for a conference, including one member who is an up-and-coming SS member. The dinner culminates in the murder of the Baron and the father fleeing the country. This is a provocative take on how the affluent in Germany at first rejected Nazism but eventually embraced it. Ingrid Thulin reclines in bed and shamelessly exposes her Grand Tetons. Achtung!
