Paul Newman reprises the role of Fast Eddie Felson from the big con classic The Hustler (1961) in The Color of Money (1986), a sleeker and more modern vehicle helmed by Martin Scorsese. The blue-eyed acting legend racks the balls and runs the table on unsuspecting schlubs while simultaneously expanding his shady empire by training new enlistees in the art of the con. Tom Cruise plays a hotshot protégé eager to learn the low-down, no-good trade, while Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio plays the ambitious hustler’s money-hungry girlfriend. Mastrantonio’s name isn’t the only mouthful the actress has to offer in this witty, fast-paced winner.
