The Polish biopic Sztuka kochania. Historia Michaliny Wislockiej, or The Art of Loving: Story of Michalina Wislocka (2017) tells the true story of someone that most folks outside of Poland have likely never even heard of, but whose research and work was crucial to the sexual history of the country. Magdalena Boczarska stars as the titular Michalina Wislocka, who was basically like William Masters, Virginia Johnson, and Alfred Kinsey all rolled into one, only she was conducting her research in Communist Poland where she faced serious criminal prosecution for her work. Wislocka starts out as a gynecologist, one of the first female doctors in her field, who realizes that people's perceptions about sex are totally warped by the restrictive governmental teachings. She sets out to rectify this by researching and publishing a book that will disprove all of the different misconceptions about sex, sexual health, and sex education in the country, but of course she comes up against tremendous resistance from both the communist government and the church. Despite all of these seemingly insurmountable odds, Wislocka gets her book published and eventually seven million copies of the novel will be printed and circulated among the population, making it the single most important piece of sex education in Polish history. Of course, it wouldn't be a movie about a famed sex researcher without lots of skin and Magdalena Boczarska rises to the occasion by baring all in a handful of scenes! Throw in bonus T'n'A from Justyna Wasilewska and we think you just might rise to occasion yourself, if you catch our drift!
