Kevin Bacon is a normal kinda guy who mistakenly allows hippie sister-in-law Illeana Douglas to hypnotize him during a party in Stir of Echoes (1999). The dopey New Ager implants a message for Bacon to keep an open mind, which then opens his mind to ghostly visits from a dead girl who wants him to solve her murder. He doesn’t have much to work with for clues, either. This underseen film suffered from being released after The Sixth Sense (1999), but it’s an impressive ghost story. Douglas is awfully sexy, too, especially if you go along with the assumption that her character’s a lesbian. And there’ll be something stirring in your pants once you check out Kathryn Erbe as Bacon’s loving wife.
