Steptoe and Son (1972)

Trash seeks its own level, landing eventually in the arms of Steptoe and Son (1972). Father Steptoe and his kid are a pop and progeny team of junk dealers who scour the shadowy alleys and dank lanes of London with a horse and cart picking up one man's refuse to be sold as another fellow's salvage. At night, the young male of the family leaves business behind and searches out a tarnished brand of love in the tawdry cabarets about town, and he finds himself a prize. When the boy brings a stripper home and announces that she is his lifelong, legally wed bride, the old man practically succumbs to cardiac arrest. Once recovered, the gray beard plots and schemes but finally despairs of ever disposing of the piece of girlie garbage that has invaded his house of discards.
