Based on a story by famed Mexican writer Elena Garro, the Mexican-Guatemalan co-production Solo de noche vienes (1966) explores the ramifications of adultery with heaps of steamy atmosphere. The little-known gem stars Julio Aleman as the handsome, conflicted protagonist who can’t help himself from falling for the radiant Elsa Aguirre. The Chihuahua, Mexico, native––dubbed “Maria Felix of the Poor” by her fans––has appeared in dozens of feature films since the 1940s, but Solo de noche vienes represented the first and only time she went full frontal in front of the camera.
