If you didn't believe me when I said it yesterday, allow me to reiterate that lesbian period pieces are all the rage right now. The latest literary figure to get the biopic treatment is poet Emily Dickinson, played byMolly Shannonin the new film Wild Nights with Emily.

Susan Ziegler co-stars as her lover Susan, with the actresses playing the women as adults while Dana Melanie and Sasha Frolova playing Emily and Susan as teens. The film is directed by Madeleine Olnek (The Foxy Merkins) and had its premiere at this past week's SXSW Festival. We don't know yet if there will be any nudity in the film, but with Shannon having flirted with nudity in Other People, there's a chance she may have come around on the subject.

Either way, the literary world is sure to be abuzz with this film and its secret unveiling of Dickinson's private letters featuring all manner of desirous prose spilled over the love of her life. If nothing else, at least there's lots of lip-locking in store for those of us who couldn't care less about the literary implications of the film.

Wild Nights with Emily opens in limited release April 12, with an expansion planned beginning the following weekend.
