Based on the Novella by Billie Livingston, Sitting on the Edge of Marlene (2014) is a bittersweet drama with some dark comedy thrown in about a mother-daughter con team. Marlene (Suzanne Clement) is a lifelong con artist who has now pulled her daughter Sammie (Paloma Kwiatkowski) into the family business. What may seem like a life of adventure turns out to be a sobering journey through life as the two examine what they really want in life and what their relationship means to them.
Suzanne Clement stands in the kitchen with her shirt off holding a knife to her stomach when her daughter walks in and stops her from hurting herself. It’s heavy drama, but Suzanne’s heavy hangers steal the scene when they nearly spill out of her bra.
