Director Alberto Sordi explores the polarizing issue of divorce with sordid humor in the rascally Italian comedy Scusi, lei è favorevole o contrario? (1967). Filmed in an era when divorce was frowned on by the Catholic Church, even while it was strongly supported by many churchgoers, Sordi’s film chronicles the hypocrisy of a well-meaning priest who remains steadfastly in favor of strict marriage laws even as he leads a philandering private life. Italian horror auteur Dario Argento and Ingmar Bergman regular Bibi Andersson are just a few of the familiar faces in Sordi’s cast, though neither makes as strong an impression as Tina Aumont, who dazzles in her nude turn as one of the priest’s more ravishing lovers.
