Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)

A very Seven Samurai-meets-Star Wars production from Zack Snyder, the first part of this sci-fi epic starts on Vledt, a distant moon within an interstellar empire known as the Motherworld. A military faction headed by the ruthless Atticus Noble (Ed Skrein) makes a stop there in the midst of its mission to quash a rebel group led by the brother and sister team of Darrian and Devra Bloodaxe (Ray Fisher and Cleopatra Coleman, respectively), murders Veldt’s peaceful village leader, and demands ten weeks worth of grain from their harvest, which would leave the people of Veldt without enough food to survive. Noble leaves a handful of soldiers and a robot named Jimmy to oversee things (meaning terrorize the villagers), but Jimmy and the one soldier with a conscience, Aris (Sky Yang), end up helping Kora (Sofia Boutella), a farmhand fairly new to Veldt, fight back. Knowing that Noble will kill them all when he returns, Kora and another farmer named Gunnar (Michiel Huisman) leave to gather up other fighters who can help defend Veldt, including Titus (Djimon Hounsou), a former general, Nemesis (Bae Doona), a cybernetic swordsperson, Kai (Charlie Hunnam), a Hans Solo-esque pilot and smuggler, and Tarak (Staz Nair), a blacksmith with the ability to tame beasts. Along the way, Kora reveals that she was once one of the Motherworld soldiers, known as the Imperium, and the adopted daughter of Balisarius (Fra Free), the military commander who seized control of the Motherworld after the assassination of the king, queen, and princess. With the help of Darrian and some of his rebels, they prepare to fight Noble but things go awry when Kai betrays them. Thanks to a director’s cut version that was released on Netflix in August of 2024, audiences were treated to the T’n’A of Sofia during a moan-inducing sex scene with Farmer Den (Stuart Martin) and the bare breasts of Vaia Zaganasv and other Toan Priestesses as they get branded by Motherworld forces. You’ll be rebelling against the urge to blow your load!
