Review

Even if a TV series receives good reviews, it doesn’t guarantee it will be automatically renewed. Take the British dramedy Pure (2019), not to be confused with the Canadian drama Pure (2005). England’s Channel 4 86-ed the show after just six episodes. Maybe if the cast had flashed more flesh, it would still be on today. Nevertheless, we still have reruns. Based on Rose Cartwright’s same-named book, the saga stars Charly Clive as Marnie. She’s a troubled young woman with an obsessive compulsive disorder who envisions everyone she meets without their clothes on. Mr. Skin should be so lucky to suffer from this affliction! Since she’s thinking about sex 24/7, Marnie decides to start anew in London where people don’t know about her issues. Throughout her journey to self-discovery, we discover Helen (Olive Gray), Libby (Tori Allen-Martin), Shereen (Sonia Sawar), Sarah (Doon Mackichan), and Sef (Jing Lusi), among other lovely ladies. Alas, Marnie makes a lot of bad first impressions. For starters, she tries to go down on Amber (Niamh Algar) but doesn’t see it through. Amber, on the other hand, steams up the screen when she and Nancy (Eleanor Fanyinka) reveal their skimpy skivvies and Sapphic action in bed. Not to be outdone, Linda (Yasmin Long) dons a mesh top that shows off her red glitter pasties. If that’s not arousing enough, her getup includes a cheeky thong. So, that’s why Marnie hits on her in a strip club. Suffice it to say, the bodacious babes in Pure are anything but!
