The life of master painter Paul Gaugin is put under the microscope in Henning Carlsen’s acclaimed biographical drama The Wolf at the Door (1986). Donald Sutherland assumes the role of Gaugin in a film set in the waning years of the nineteenth century, as the painter returns from Tahiti. What’s today viewed as a creative breakthrough for the artist was at that time viewed as a disaster, as Gaugin struggled to sell a single one of his canvases. Fortunately the artist still managed to maintain his magnetism for women, as a wide array of French and Tahitian beauties take pleasure in throwing themselves at him. Valeri Glandut and Sofie Gråbøl help illustrate this point by ripping off their garb for the ravenous young artist.
