While mid-May isn't exactly a great time for non-blockbusters with nudity, four years ago we got quite a few movies with skin! We've also got a skin classic celebrating its 45th anniversary today! Read on to find out more about the best skin-filled movies released on May 20 in Movie Nudity History!
2016: Manhattan Night
The first of four movies with nudity released on this day in 2016 is this intense drama starring Adrien Brody and Yvonne Strahovski! Based on the 1996 novelManhattan Nocturneby Colin Harrison, the film centers on a tabloid writer named Porter Wren (Brody) who has a penchant for using his journalistic prowess to uncover—or fabricate, as it were—unfortunate truths. When he is approached by a beautiful blonde named Caroline (Strahovski) who wants to solve the mystery behind the murderof her filmmaker husband (Campbell Scott), he soon falls into a trap of seduction that threatens to end his marriage and his career.
Who among us wouldn't chuck everything in our own lives out the window to get with Yvonne Strahovski? The saucy Aussie beauty makes her nude debut just 27 minutes into the flick when Brody comes to her apartment to find her masturbating in the shower, leading to a hallway sex scene that will go down as one of the best nude debuts of the new millennium!
2016: The Nice Guys
One of my favorite comedies of the last decade, Shane Black's hilarious buddy (not-really) cops (definitely not) flick co-starring Russell Crowe and a never-better Ryan Gosling. If you haven't seen the film, you're doing yourself a disservice, so I'm not going to spoil any of the particulars but Crowe and Gosling play two guys in over their heads in a conspiracy involving the government, the adult film industry, and a non-stop flood of people trying to kill them. The film opens with a car crashing into a home in the Hollywood Hills, with pornstar Misty Mountains (Murielle Telio) falling out of the car to her death—but not before showing off her amazing rack...
As the two mismatched investigators try to sort out the conspiracy theory, they attend a porn industry party with lots of uncredited nudity—though painted gal Jordan Hairston does manage to catch Gosling's attention...
We get another topless scene from Murielle Telio late in the film, though I won't spoil the circumstances other than to say it's a fairly hilarious scene...
2016: Ma Ma
But enough fun, let's get down to some serious business with this depressing cancer drama starring the always radiant Penélope Cruz! Cruz plays a woman battling with a breast cancer diagnosis that comes just before she meets a man with whom she really connects. Although released in Spain in late 2015, it didn't make its way to American shores until this day four years ago! Cruz has a number of nude scenes in the film, though one might hesitate to call any of them sexy. We get a nice look at Penélope's pair when she first loses all her hair to chemotherapy and she goes topless again later in the film after having a mastectomy...
2016: Maggie's Plan
The final flick with nudity released on this day four years ago is this indie dramedy starring Ethan Hawke and Greta Gerwig. Greta stars as Maggie, who falls for John (Hawke), thinking him to be the love of her life. The only problem is that John is married, but before long, he leaves his wife, marries Maggie, and they have a child together. Three years on, Maggie begins to suspect that John and his ex were actually a perfect couple before she split them up and hatches the titular plan to get the two back together.
Greta Gerwig goes tits out in the flick for a sex scene with Hawke, which remains her most recent nude scene as of now...
1975: Switchblade Sisters
Although this grindhouse classic didn't gain a ton of notoriety until Quentin Tarantino spotlighted it in the 90s, Switchblade Sisters is one of the great exploitation flicks of the 70s! Director Jack Hill (The Big Bird Cage, Coffy, Foxy Brown) was at the helm of this girl gang classic and several familiar faces pop up including Janice Karman, Marlene Clark, and That 70s Show's swinging neighbor Don Stark. The film had several other attention grabbing titles that it played under during its run includingThe Jezebels,Maggie's Stiletto Sisters, andThe Warriors II: Las Navajeras. Perhaps this accounts for why the film didn't catch on in its time, but it has since come to be recognized as one of the premiere examples of the girl gang exploitation flick.
The film follows Maggie (Joanne Nail), a new girl at a high school run by two gangs, the male Silver Daggers and their female counterparts The Dagger Debs, led by Lace (Robbie Lee). When a melee with a repo man lands the Debs and Maggie in a juvenile detention center run by a lusty lesbian warden (Kate Murtagh). Maggie fights back against the warden's strict rules, earning her Lace's respect, though that eventually comes to an end when the two are locked in mortal switchblade combat later in the film.
Both Joanne Nail and Robbie Lee go topless in the flick, along with bonus boobage from Janice Karman. If you've never seen Switchblade Sisters, now is the time to rectify that...
