On Chesil Beach (2017)

Ever since Annette Funicello bounced around in her bikini via Beach Party (1963), movie goers have had a hankering to see starlets heat up the screen on the sand. No doubt, that explains the releases of Muscle Beach Party (1964), Beach Blanket Bingo (1965), How to Stuff a Wild Bikini (1965), Malibu Beach (1978), The Beach Girls (1982), Beach Balls (1988), Beach Babes from Beyond (1993), South Beach Academy (1994), Psycho Beach Party (2000), Beach Pillows (2013), and On Chesil Beach (2017). Mind you, the latter film differs in that it takes place across the pond. Based on Ian McEwan’s Booker Prize-nominated novella of the same name, the British flick depicts newlyweds Florence Ponting (Saoirse Ronan) and Edward Mayhew (Billy Howle) in 1962. Back then, folks were usually virgins when they married. As such, these two struggle to consummate their union during a very awkward honeymoon at Chesil Beach in Dorset, England. Of course, not everyone is shy about showing off their bodies. Marjorie Mayhew (Anne-Marie Duff) struts her stuff in the buff when she runs around outside just 9 minutes into the pic. Later, she bares her breasts indoors at the 44-minute mark. If you prefer the more demure type, Ms. Ronan shows off her tight body in blue lingerie that accentuates her fiery red hair. Talk about a cup of tease! Her character even freaks out in one attempted sex scene in which she finds semen on her leg. Maybe she’d think differently if Mr. Skin was her leading man!
