A lonely bachelor becomes slightly warped by his time in isolation in the eerie Spanish drama No es bueno que el hombre esté solo (1973). With a title lifted from the second book of Genesis, Pedro Olea’s film tells of an introverted middle-aged man (José Luís López Vázquez) who looks to a life-size female doll to satisfy his romantic cravings. When his fetching teen neighbor peeks into the man’s window and discovers his secret, she uses it as devastating emotional blackmail. Carmen Sevilla stars as the flesh-and-blood female who teaches her loner boyfriend about how much better sex can get.
