This is huge news! Natalie Portman is starring in an upcoming film called Good Sex which is such a proactive title that I nearly ran through the streets shouting this news at the top of my lungs. The film has attached Portman and it is written and directed by Girls creator and star Lena Dunham. What a dynamic duo to lead the charge of a sexy movie!
This film is going to feature an age-gap romance much like the recent hit Babygirl (and Todd Haynes' film May December which Portman played a supporting role). Age gap love is all the rage right now with stories of older women and younger men having intense affairs. This taboo subject appears to be taking Hollywood by storm. I'm okay with the fad because it is bringing us hot nude scenes, like Kidman's in Babygirl.
In Good Sex, Portman is set to play a couple's therapist who falls for a 20-something Brooklyn boy at the same that she enters a relationship with a Manhattanite named Alan. The latter is a more traditional and appropriate relationship for the kind of character that Portman is playing, a working woman in her 40s. But the heart wants what it wants and her heart might want a 20-something hipster's boner.
Lena Dunham was supposed to direct a Polly Pocket movie, following in the footsteps of the successful Barbie movie. She dropped the project and it's clear why: Dunham does adult material! She doesn't want to do a toy movie. She wants to helm a spicy movie with sex scenes and star power. I'm here for Good Sex!
Portman is already a self-professed fan of Lena Dunham. She once said about Lena Dunham's debut 2010 film Tiny Furniture which began her entire career:
I remember seeing Tiny Furniture, Lena Dunham’s film, and when the credits rolled I started crying because it was written by Lena Dunham, starring Lena Dunham, produced by Lena Dunham, and directed by Lena Dunham. This young woman has no fear of [saying] “I did it, I did all of this.” And it was so good.
That's high praise! It's clear that Portman thinks that Dunham is ballsy, but can Portman step up to the Lena Dunham challenge and be daring herself? I am super hopeful. Dunham has had some recent misses, but I think that she is poised for a comeback and I think that Natalie Portman getting down and dirty is the way to do. At the very least, it's the way to make audiences come...back. Hey, mind out of the gutter!
But if your mind is stuck in the gutter, then enjoy some of Portman's nudity. For a long time, she refused to go nude. But over the years, she has let down her guard and her panties as she continues to show us more and more. I love an actress who gets more nude with age.
This makes me think that this film is the perfect role for her! Check out her other recent nude scenes here:
