Catherine, played by the uber-sexy Valérie Kaprisky, needs some time off after her relationship with her lover falls flat. Daughter in tow, she seeks relief by taking a long train trip to Vancouver. Fortunately for us, her grief is short lived, as she meets the mysterious Vincent and falls rapidly in love. Smart and sophisticated, with an odd sub-plot involving a thief, Mouvements du désir (1994) is a cool, romantic jaunt through the Canadian countryside. Kaprisky’s solo plumbing of the velvet underground and her vigorous one-on-one with Vincent will make you pray for engine failure.
