Dying is generally thought to be no fun for anybody, but sometimes the widow left behind is able to dispense some measure of joy that she might have kept to herself if her husband had not croaked. This optimistic affirmation of life stirs the core of Moonlight and Valentino (1995), a sensitive and sensual portrayal of the sap of existence rising to run again through the veins and flush the cheek and breast of a woman left behind by death’s cruel scythe. Each new day is tough, struggling on without the bed mate and dinner date to whom she had become so accustomed. But why doth she pine away? That new house painter poking around the place, he’s as hot as a rock star, and he seems to have an eye on her. Shades of ecstasy are about to be rolled upon her sugar walls.
