Moon Over Parador

Moon Over Parador (1988)

No Nudity

Review

A little-known dramatic actor is asked to impersonate the dictator of an embattled Latin American country in Paul Mazursky’s sly political and showbiz satire Moon Over Parador (1988). Nominated for a pair of Golden Globes, the film stars Richard Dreyfuss as a serious but struggling thespian who’s abducted by a banana republic’s chief of police (Raul Julia) while on location for a film shoot. It turns out that the reigning leader (Lorin Dreyfuss) is dead, and the government needs Noah (Dreyfuss) to step in and impersonate the dead man. The assignment’s a toughie, but it’s got its perks––primary among them is the opportunity for Noah to spend some quality time with newly widowed first lady Sonia Braga, whose body is one to braga about.
