With a title like Mein Kampf (1991), you can be sure that Thomas Langhoff’s film is packed with plenty of sex, hedonism, and . . . wait a second, was that Mein Kampf? Sure enough, Langhoff’s adaptation of George Tabori’s irreverent stage comedy reimagines the life of the twentieth century’s most notorious villain. In this revisionist retelling, the mustachioed megalomaniac meets a Jewish Bible salesman while living in a Viennese men’s shelter as a youth. Their encounter is spun into a provocative, controversial farce, which actually does find time for a bit of skin flashing. Elegant Gundula Köster pays a random visit to the boarding house to show off her perky tits to the future Fuhrer. Who would have thought?
