Medium (1985)

Jacek Koprowicz’s eerie supernatural thriller Medium (1985) is set in 1930s Sopot, where four strangers are beckoned to a crumbling villa to brush up against death. The principals in Koprowicz’s film all have hidden reasons for reuniting in the spot where, nearly four decades earlier, a gruesome murder ritual took place. Now, the group is persuaded to reenact the events of that fateful day--a decision that unleashes a hellish onslaught of ghoulishness. Fortunately Koprowicz is smart enough to understand that sex and horror are one of cinema’s most satisfying combinations. He persuades beautiful Grazyna Szapolowska to peel off her wardrobe before getting swiped with a madman’s rusty axe.
