Maya Memsaab (1993)

Maya Memsaab (1993) is a Hindi film based on the literary classic Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert. When her father suffers a stroke, Maya (Deepa Sahi) meets a rural Indian doctor, Charu Das, who makes repeated visits on his bicycle in order to see her. Eventually the two marry, but as the years roll by, Charu's work leaves Maya feeling alone and restless. She pursues affairs with two younger men, Rudra and Lalit, but true fulfillment continues to evade her up until her tragic demise which leads to questions concerning her death. Soon the suspicion of foul play arises and an investigation is carried out, with all the men she knew and loved becoming suspects. During less mournful times, Deepa's peepers make an appearance in profile shots scattered throughout an avant-garde psychedelic sex scene. Hard to believe in 1993, Deepa's topless scene was considered so controversial, the censor board had it removed from the film's theatrical release. Thankfully all is intact here at Mr. Skin!
