A lone upstanding cop in corrupt 1940s-era Los Angeles fights tooth and nail to put an end to an exploitative prostitution ring in the made-for-TV noir Man Against the Mob: The Chinatown Murders (1989). George Peppard stars as Frank Doakey, a well-intentioned detective who refuses to look the other way when gangsters establish a human trafficking operation in his city’s Chinatown neighborhood. Doakey’s sworn to protect his fellow citizens, and he knows that the best boff is the kind you don’t have to pay for. Love interest Julia Nickson-Soul proves that aphorism true as she prepares for a bout of bedroom gymnastics with the anxious Peppard.
