Les hirondelles d'hiver (1999), or Winter Swallows, is a French tv movie based on a book about nineteenth century chimney sweeps in the small French town of Savoie. These workers sweep into town (get it?) and spend several months recruiting the teams of young men that will comprise their team for the busy chimney sweeping season. Along the way they learn about life and love and all that, because why else would there be a movie about chimney sweeps? Wasn't that territory more or less covered in Mary Poppins? You'll be sweeping out your chimney when you get a load of the lovely Julie-Marie Parmentier who plays a young resident of the town. She catches the eye of some big-nosed guy as she bathes in a barn, giving us and him a nice look at her breasticles and beaver before covering them up. It's a good thing Winter Swallows, because what else would you do with that mess you just made?
