Patrick receives a hefty amount of farmland from Jean-François’s father after his suicide. Being only 20 years old at the time, Jean-François decides to go under Patrick and his wife’s Natalie supervision and work on the farm. Jean-François must not only accept the burden of responsibility, but learn to embrace it and thrive on it in order to develop into the man he wants to be. Throughout his work on the land he begins to have feelings for Nathalie, his new motherly figure, and he tells her of his undying love. Patrick and Nathalie already have two children, and once Patrick finds out about the confession, he gets aggravated with Jean-François.

Clémentine Célarié plays the role of Nathalie in Les coquelicots sont revenus (1999).
