Lata dwudzieste, lata trzydzieste (1983)

Although it was filmed in the early 1980s, Janusz Rzeszewski’s endearing Polish musical comedy Lata dwudzieste, lata trzydzieste (1983) is set in an entirely different era. The title roughly translates as The Twenties, The Thirties, and it’s this roaring period that Rzeszewski’s film seeks to address. Although the era is frequently regarded as a more socially conservative one, the director bends over backward to squash that notion, coaxing lead actress Grazyna Szapolowska into flashing her assets with a verve that would make many contemporary beauties blush.
