Lady in the Lake (2024)

Based on the Laura Lippman novel of the same name, the 2024 Apple TV+ miniseries Lady in the Lake stars the always amazing Natalie Portman as Maddie Schwartz, a housewife and mother in 1960s Baltimore who decides to leave her comfortable life behind in pursuit of becoming an investigative journalist and solving a series of murders happening in her neighborhood. Feeling that the police aren't pursuing the investigation because all of the victims are black, she takes on the classic white savior archetype, finding herself countered not just by the police, but also by activist Cleo Sherwood (Moses Ingram), who doesn't welcome her help either. It looks like Maddie may have herself a case of Jungle Fever, as Natalie Portman strips down to her period appropriate underwear to get it on with co-star Y'lan Noel in the first episode!
