La vida cambia (1975)

A hairdresser to the upper crust of Mexico City society watches her life take a series of surreal turns in Juan Manuel Torres’s flamboyantly overripe melodrama La Vida cambia (1975). Mercedes Carreño stars as the mercurial Terre, a sassy young woman embroiled in a romantic affair with the same man her sister is desperately trying to seduce. As if this isn’t complicated enough, the salon goddess also cultivates a weirdly intense relationship with a quirky antiques collector who’s trying to get her to agree to a suicide pact. Fortunately, hectic as her life is, Terre hardly has time for clothes. She traipses around the bedroom wearing hardly a stitch in all of her most enjoyable scenes.
