Ambitious French citizens undergo an ecological cleansing by going “back-to-the-land” in Bruno Herbulot’s dark comedy La Cloche a sonné (2005). As disciples of irreverent, green-friendly guru Simon Arcos (Fabrice Luchini), the commune’s new residents are required to ditch their cell phones and deodorant in favor of earth-friendly activities such as cow hugging and wallowing in the mud. Co-star Elsa Zylberstein realizes from the get-go that nothing’s more natural than sex and immediately gets busy turning the retreat into a nudist’s paradise.
