Biography

Kitty Winn had short career with a lasting impression, working mainly during the inspired ‘70s cinema scene. She made her film debut as heroin addict Helen in director Jerry Schatzberg’s The Panic in Needle Park(1971), co-starring a young Al Pacino in only his second film role ever. Kitty’s portrayal as a homeless woman who falls in love and addiction with Pacino’s Bobby earned her a Golden Palm Award for Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival, and a 76th place on Premiere magazine’s “100 Greatest Performances of All Time” in 2006. Kitty is also topless in the film, sitting up in bed while Pacino sleeps, her gaze trained across the room as her pointy and perfect nipples capture all the attention. Her next big-screen role was playing Grace in They Might Be Giants (1971) with George C. Scott and Joanne Woodward, followed by several TV movies, including Message to My Daughter (1973) opposite Martin Sheen. Kitty became permanently etched in movie history when she joined the cast of The Exorcist (1973), in the role of Sharon Spencer, the possessed Regan’s tutor and caretaker. She repeated the part in the film’s sequel, Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977), where her character lost a clash with a demon. In between that, you can find Kitty playing the role of Rosamond Lassiter on the TV series Beacon Hill in 1975, and starring as Mianne Prendergast in the big-screen movie Peeper (1975) with Michael Caine and Natalie Wood. After a small handful of projects in the early ‘80s, Kitty officially left Hollywood to raise her family. But what a run she had!
