Nominated for Best Foreign Language Feature at the 2006 Academy Awards, the powerful wartime drama Joyeux Noël (2005) is based on a true story. Set at the height of WWI, the film chronicles the unique events of Christmas Eve, 1941, when soldiers on both sides of the Western Front called a twenty-four-hour truce in order to play a soccer game in No Man’s Land.
