Imagining Argentina (2003)

From the late 1970s through the early 1980s Argentina was brutally ruled by a military junta operating outside the rule of law, resulting in 30,000 or more citizens being “disappeared” by a government that refused to tolerate their dissent. Imagining Argentina (2003) is the screen adaptation of a novel depicting one man’s supernatural second sight developed in this cauldron of terror and uncertainty. When a stiff-backed and rigidly principled female journalist is snatched by goons of the ruling party, her husband finds, at first unwillingly, that he has been blessed (or is it cursed?) with the power to see the fates of those many thousands who were cruelly dispatched without the benefit of witnesses. Through him, we in the world at large may all become witnesses to this vast atrocity.
