Hemel

Hemel (2012)

Great Nudity!

Review

A Dutch dame searches for meaning between the sheets in Sacha Polak’s erotic drama Hemel (2012). Like a female version of Steve McQueen’s NC-17 film Shame (2011), this provocative pic uses graphic sex scenes to convey its psychological themes. The story follows Hemel (Hannah Hoekstra), a young woman who was raised by her father (Hans Dagelet) after her mother split. Consequently, she isn’t close to anyone except for her dad. Nevertheless, Hemel goes out every night searching for male companionship — whether he’s a potential soul mate, a one-night stand, or even an assaulter. During an early encounter, a dude shaves Ms. Hoekstra’s beaver in bed. As a result, we get to view Hannah’s full frontal nudity just 7 minutes into the movie! The skintastic actress admitted she had some reservations about taking the part, explaining, “Already in the first scene I’m in bed with a man and my pubic hair is shaved off. I really doubted whether I should play this role.” Rest assured, we’re glad she did! Every time her character substitutes sex for love, we get to see Hannah’s bare bod! In one scene, she reveals her rack and rump while getting busy with a bloke all over the apartment. Perhaps that’s why this foreign flick picked up the FIPRESCI Award at the Berlin International Film Festival. Heaven knows, the naked leading lady’s sexy pervformance was enough to generate a statuette in Mr. Skin’s trousers! In other words, this Netherlands production will produce a stir in your nether regions!
