Review

Although no man wants his own unit to be demeaned as the punch line of a joke, the human penis has more potential for humor than any other physical organ in the animal kingdom. Leave it to the perspicacious wit of clever Japanese exploitation action filmmakers to milk the man root for paroxysms of mirth. As expected, the samurai swords-and-sin epic Hanzo the Razor: Sword of Justice (1972) entertains and enthralls with copious cascades of fake blood, a selection of demure and delectable damsels stripped to skin, a groovy Asian funk soundtrack, and a plot that upholds the concept of dismemberment before dishonor. The distinguishing delight of this fun and fatalistic flick is that it also makes great raucous ribaldry out of hero Hanzo’s massive schlong. The bigger they are, the harder we laugh.
