Gina Gershon is making the press rounds at the moment to talk about Borderlands, but she got loose on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live and talked about one of my favorite topics: sex scenes! She talked about her first-ever movie sex scene with Tom Cruise and the injuries that almost accrued. What did she say? Let's talk about it!
In 1988, Gina Gershon starred in the tipsy comedy Cocktail. Directed by Roger Donaldson, the movie starred Tom Cruise at his most 80s as a business student in New York City who makes extra dough by working as a bartender.
He needs a big change in his life, so he takes a new job at a bar all the way in Jamaica and falls for a sweet and sexy artist played by the darling Elisabeth Shue from Adventures in Babysitting. She's less edgy and more side-boobie! Gershon is his photographer girlfriend who winds up cheating on Cruise with his business partner which is the inciting incident that takes him to the Caribbean.
But at one point? She accidentally kneed him in the nose. The reason? He tickled her! Look, folks, tickling can be a sexy excuse to touch your lover intimately, but it can also end in injury. Be careful out there, ticklers!
She explained a little more so we had more context. "At one point, he starts off under the covers, and I told him I was very ticklish. I said, ‘No, no, don’t ever do that.’ And in one take — I think he wanted a reaction — and he grabbed my stomach, and I kneed him right in the nose.”
Did she break his nose? Was this pre or post nose job? Sorry, I had to! But she reacted strongly and was scared that she may have actually hurt Tom Cruise. “I was like, ‘Oh, my God, I just broke Tom Cruise’s nose.’ He’s like, ‘No, no, you told me.’ I’m like, ‘I’m so sorry,’ he was like, ‘No, it was my fault.’ And he was so overprotective over me. He was great.”
Aw, well that's respectful! He knew that he crossed the line after she explicitly told him not to tickle him - and he got what was coming to him. As the kids say, he f*cked around and found out. I'm glad that he owned up to it and knew not to tickle his co-star again. Honestly, there is no sign of this in the sexy scene.
