One year after her iconic breakthrough as bisexual glitter goddess Crystal Connors in Showgirls, Gina Gershon went all the way to the lady-loving side opposite jugalicious Jennifer Tilly in Bound, which opened in theaters on this date in 1996.
Directed by The Wachowski Brothers, later of Matrix fame, Bound is a twisty, twisted thriller in which Mafia moll Jen falls for ultra sexy tough-girl lesbo Gina. Together they plot to make off with $2 million of mobster Joe Pantoliano’s money but not until they make it with each other a lot first and then after and even during the grand scheme.
Bound is stylish and captivating, and it clearly announced the Wachowskis as filmmaking talents to watch. More skin-portantly, Bound also forever rendered Gina Gershon a Sapphic sex goddess (also see her skinteracial lust-fest with Shakara Ledard in Prey for Rock Roll), and for many fans it provided the first revelation of Jennifer’s mighty, mighty suckle-sacks.
From the beginning, this movie was Bound for greatness.
