Yet another Odd Couple offspring, CBS’s George and Leo showed up in 1997 boasting actors such as Bob Newhart, Judd Hirsch, and Jason Bateman and was produced by Cheers creator James Burrows. With credentials like those, George and Leo seemed primed to be a sleeper hit of some sort. Alas, it was not to be, as the “bickering in-laws” material didn’t do much to impress a wide audience, and the show was canceled after twenty-two episodes. Woman-wise, we were offered the beauteous Bess Meyer, that is until she was replaced by the rousing Robyn Lively in episode nine. Other memorable mammas included Alexondra Lee, Julia Sweeney, and guest gals as varied as Julia Duffy, Veronica Cartwright, Marilu Henner, Angie Dickinson, Marcia Wallace, Nora Dunn, and Dinah Manoff. George and Leo may have had a tough time dealing with each other, but at least they were among curvaceous company!
