The story of real-life geisha Sada Abe is so thrilling and full of unbridled sexual desire that it had to be made into a movie. That's where the Japanese flick In The Realm of the Senses comes in. Thisis the ultimateJapanese arthouse movie, featuring beautiful cinematography and even more beautiful nude scenes. It was originally released with an NC-17 rating which isn't a surprise considering the non-stop sex in this movie.
Theplotfollows a man who falls for his dutiful female servant Sada Abe, played perfectly by Eiko Matsuda. The two begin a sexual relationship that borders on obsession with the pair giving in to all theirskinful wishes and seeming to never want to be apart (and clothed).
The couple experiments sexually, with a lot of choking, fellatio, and so much more.
We won't ruin the rest of the movie, but it is worth mentioning again that this is based on a real story that doesn't have a happy ending. In real life, the sadistic Sada Abe was driven crazy by the idea that her lover Kichizo Ishida would go back to his wife. They experimented with choking during a weekend together, but things got very out-of-hand.
She ended up going too far on May 18, 1936, and...we won't spoil it, but let's just say it doesn't end there. Sada served only five years in prison for his murder and wrote an autobiographyabout it when she was released which partially inspired this movie. She then disappeared from the public eye so well that director Nagisa Oshima struggled to locate her. He allegedly eventually found her living in a remote Japanese convent. Imagine that: she went from craven sex-fiend to nun! At least we have her incredibly sexploits forever kept on film in In the Realm of the Senses.
