Today's foreign film for Foreign Film Friday is actually in English, despite coming to us from France. This 1968 erotic film was definitely foreign because its sapphic content was much too hot for the US of A at the time. Let's take a look at the unapologetically hot black-and-white film Therese and Isabelle.
Therese and Isabelle is a film from 1968 that is a co French-American production. This erotic drama was given to us from Radley Metzger, but it was also based on a novel by Violette Leduc of the same name. So it's technically literature. Who wouldn't love for this lesbian tale to have been taught in a classroom?
The plot follows two childhood friends who wind up at a boarding school in Europe where they must be studying anatomy because they wind up getting nude and very intimate with one another. That's a hands-on approach to learning! In one scene, the naked women make out and the narration over the scene mentions fingering in the most poetic way we've ever heard. "I listened with her finger to the song my fingers were singing". Now that's some serious Splendor in the Grass.
Essy Persson plays Therese and Anna Gael plays Isabelle and the two friends and roommates really make good use of their boarding school education by getting down and dirty with one another. Is this what the kids called studying in France?
In fact, you should watch that scene. It's a little darker than the other numerous nude scenes in the movie (seven, there are seven nude scenes in this movie!), but the narration is really hot and it matches the sexy action. Watch it here:
