Forbrydelser (2004)

Made in accordance with the Dogme95 “vow of chastity,” in which filmmakers are required to observe strict requirements meant to enhance cinematic naturalism, Forbrydelser (2004) is an artsy drama set within the confines of a liberal women’s prison. Trine Dyrholm stars as a beautiful inmate whose otherworldly healing powers challenge the authority of the prison’s new chaplain (Ann Eleonora Jørgensen). Far from a conventional “women in prison” picture, Annette K. Olesen’s film nevertheless honors some of the genre’s conventions, particularly in allowing the heroine an exhilarating S&M-themed scene involving a strip search.
