Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) is another one of screenwriter Charlie Kaufman’s mind-blowing spins around Reality Street. This time Jim Carrey plays a guy who erases his girlfriend from his memory and then fights to keep some kernel of her hidden in his Swiss-cheese mind. Since his break-up girl is Kate Winslet, it’s understandable that he’d like to retain something of her fleshy presence. At least Carrey got to fondle Kate, who plays a Day-Glo-haired free spirit, but the audience doesn’t get to see any of her whale Britannias, which she has so generously shared in the past. Kirsten Dunst has a supporting role that gets close to skin, but she has yet to get our Spidy senses tingling. But hope rings eternal.
