After the tragic events of the Holocaust, a survivor moves to New York in 1949 to become a ghostwriter for a Jewish rabbi in Enemies: A Love Story (1989). He thought his wife had died during the atrocity, and now finds himself involved with two different women – his wife and another lover, the latter being married herself. To heighten the strain, his long lost first wife didn’t actually die during the Holocaust, and she comes into his life as well. All of this love drama occurs in a backdrop of many holocaust survivors who question the existence of God, as a result of the cultural horrors that have been shoveled on them. The main character’s mistress is played by Lena Olin, and she offers up a face full of breasts in a sex scene that occurs within the first 20 minutes of the film. If this is how she treats enemies, I wonder what she does for friends!
