Job security is always an illusion, and a man who bases either his identity or his self-worth on his current mode of employment is in for the rude awakening that seems sooner or later to befall any and every Employee of the Month (2004). A contented and--he thought--highly valued bank employee is dumped by management with no advance warning. Arriving home in dire need of rest and reassurance, he is informed that his beloved fiancée is also letting him go. An apparently insider-aided robbery at the bank he had formerly served puts him in suspicion of having waylaid millions of diverted dollars. Amid this one day of chaos, the sad sack’s best bud opines that everything happens for a reason and all this turmoil is for the best. Doesn’t that fool know that best friends can be fired too?
