El Hijo de Pedro Navaja (1986)

Based on a popular song by Rubén Blades (which was, in turn, lifted from Bobby Darin’s “Mack the Knife”), Alfonso Rosas Priego’s El Hijo de Pedro Navaja (1986) weaves a gritty tale about the son of a prostitute and a pimp. Guillermo Capetillo stars as “El Hijo de Pedro Navaja,” a Mexican-American who fancies himself as a crusader for women’s rights. Tormented by his parents’ tragic fate, the young man decides to return to Mexico to train himself in the art of knife fighting. Naturally he encounters his share of roughnecks, but he also gets to mix with some rouged prostitutes. Carmelina Encinas, Diana Ferreti, Gabriela Goldsmith, and Sasha Montenegro are just a few of the hussies who deign to reveal their choicest bits to the knife-wielding hero.
