Stop! In the name of jugs! Dreamgirls (2006) will break your heart! Look them over: they're Beyoncé Knowles, Jennifer Hudson, and Anika Noni Rose, and they're a supremely talented trio who begins their top-heavy rise to the top at a talent competition in early-’60s Detroit. It's there that the satin-wrapped songbirds are discovered by ambitious Cadillac dealer Jamie Foxx, who becomes their manager and sets them up with a new gig backing up R&B star Eddie Murphy. Jamie has to pull some not-so-savory strings to get them where they want to be, but he gets them there nonetheless, and soon enough they're at the top of the charts. Eddie gets it on with Anika, Jamie gets foxy with Jenny, and Beyoncé romances the camera with that bouncy, bootylicious bod. But when Jamie decides to replace voluptuous, gospel-voiced Jen with slim, saleable Beyoncé as the lead singer, chests start heaving (and high-strung Jen thinks about leaving). Baby, baby, where did their love go?
