A holiday-themed slasher flick in the vein of Black Christmas (1974), Christmas Evil (1980), and Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984), the UK fright flick Don't Open Till Christmas (1984) features a unique of a twist on the genre. In this one, the killer isn't a guy who dresses in a Santa suit, he's a psycho in a translucent mask and a hoodie, who is going around London slaughtering anyone dressed up as Santa Claus. We follow a detective (Edmund Purdom) and the tenacious reporter (Alan Lake) who are both out to stop him before he kills every St. Nick in sight, while trying to figure out which character is doing the killing. Why don't all these Santas take the suits off and not get murdered? Who knows? Maybe their Christmas spirit is too strong to let a little stabbing ruin the holiday season. Part of the problem with the movie, which was ravaged by critics and represented Lake's final film role before his untimely death, was that Purdom quit the project he was both starring and directing in, only to return after they'd done a bunch of rewrites and shot a ton of new scenes. While the flick might be a bit of a mess, the Christmas presents in this one are the ornaments on Pat Astley’s chest, which we get to see no less than four times. It's the last movie the star of The Playbirds (1978) ever appeared in, with the blonde bombshell playing a topless model who the killer catches wearing a Santa robe, with nothing under it. Add her to your British hottie list, and add us to the naughty list. Seeing Pat unwrap those globes will put a partridge in your pear tree!
