German actress Djamila Rowe was born in East Germany in 1967 and was raised by her grandparents after her parents fled Germany for the United States. After finishing school, she too fled Germany, but returned in the late 1980’s after reunification. Her career in the entertainment industry started as a make-up artist. She then worked as a model and stripper before she began landing acting jobs more regularly. In 2002 she was embroiled in a scandal when she told the press that a Swiss Ambassador paid her for sex. It made the news and put her on the front page of every paper in the country before she retracted the statement. The paper that originally published her statement was sued by the ambassador and lost, having to pay him a million dollars.
